Triodone 200mg

Triodone 200mg is used to treat fast or abnormal heartbeats.

For use only in patients with indicated life-threatening arrhythmias due to the risk for substantial, potentially fatal toxicity.

May cause dizziness and some problems with your eyesight. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert or need to see clearly.

This medicine may also make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Apply sunscreen when going outdoors and avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and UV lamps.

Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:

• Difficulty breathing or tightness in the chest, coughing, wheezing, fever
• Abnormally slow heartbeat, chest pain, shortness of breath
• Severe agitation or extremely restless feeling, weight loss, increased sweating, intolerance to heat
• Extreme tiredness or weakness, weight gain, intolerance to cold temperature
• Loss of eyesight in one eye, dim and colorless eyesight, sore or tender eyes
• Rashes with peeling of the skin or blistering of the lips, mouth or eyes accompanied by fever

Its main effect is to lengthen the action potential and refractory period in the myocardial tissue. It blocks the Na, K, and Ca channels resulting in slowing of the conduction and prolongation of refractoriness. It produces negative chronotropic effects in nodal tissues similar to class IV.

Do not take Triodone 200mg with the following medicines:

• Certain medicines used for mood disorder e.g. Chlorpromazine, thioridazine, fluphenazine, ....../lithium
• Medicines to treat depression e.g. Doxepin, maprotiline, amitriptyline
• Certain medicines for cold and allergy e.g. Terfenadine
• Medicines used to treat malaria e.g. Quinine, mefloquine, chloroquine, halofantrine
• Certain antibiotics e.g. Moxifloxacin

Have a regular eye exam during your treatment and call your doctor if your eyes become dry, sensitive to light, if you see halos, or have blurred vision or any other problems with your vision.

Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory. Your doctor will order certain tests, such as blood tests, X-rays, and electrocardiograms (EKGs, tests that record the electrical activity of the heart) before and during your treatment to be sure that it is safe for you to take amiodarone and to check your body's response to the medication.

Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

How do the patients’ take this medicine?

Take this medication by mouth, usually once or twice daily or as directed by your doctor. 

You may take this medication with or without food, but it is important to choose one way and take this medication the same way with every dose.

Do not stop taking this medication or change the dose without first consulting your doctor. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.

What should do the patients do if he/she miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

When should the patients’ not use this medicine?

Patients should not use Triodone 200mg if they have:

a serious heart condition called "AV block" (2nd or 3rd degree), unless you have a pacemaker;

a history of slow heartbeats that have caused you to faint; or

if your heart cannot pump blood properly.

What special dietary instructions should the patients follow while taking Triodone 200mg?

Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while using this medication unless your doctor instructs you otherwise.

Is Triodone 200mg safe during pregnancy and for breastfeeding mother?

Talk to your doctor if you plan to become pregnant during your treatment because amiodarone may remain in your body for some time after you stop taking it. If you become pregnant while taking amiodarone, call your doctor immediately. Amiodarone can cause fetal harm.

Do not breastfeed while taking Triodone 200mg. Talk to your doctor about the best way to feed your baby during this time.
