All-time High: Philippines Records Biggest Single-day Rise in Coronavirus Cases

The most high-peak positive rate of 26.1% implies 1 in 4 people is positive for COVID-19. It was increased just after the government announced to ease the lockdown in the city of Manila. On Friday, August 20, the health department stated a record 17,231 new coronavirus cases, which is the highest peak in a day since the covid started in March 2020.

Friday’s rise in viruses suggested the country’s entire COVID-19 cases is 1,807,800. Accordingly, 6.8% or 123,251 cases were current or patients presently infected with the virus. The DOH further reported 317 deaths. 

Meanwhile, the improvement of recoveries was higher by 5,595 for a total of 1,653,351. The DOH stated each testing center was operational on Wednesday, August 18, while two labs could not suggest their data on time. The cases shown in the record were based on experiments conveyed two days ago.

“Based on data in the last 14 days, the 2 non-reporting labs provide, on average, 0.03% of samples examined and 0.08% of positive individuals,” the DOH stated.

On Monday, August 16, the Philippines verified its first case of the COVID-19 Lambda variant, which remained a confined case. This suggested the patient live in the country and not overseas. 

How the variant, which reportedly began in Peru, entered the Philippines was yet a problem. First thoughts have stated that the Lambda variant was more contrary to vaccines.

The detection of the Lambda state in the country arrives as the Philippines proceedings with a record-breaking surge inspired by the profoundly contagious delta variant.
