Indications
Sevelamer carbonate is used to control serum phosphate in chronic kidney disease patients, including those on hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, and in adults with hyperphosphatemia (serum phosphate >1.78 mmol/L).
Dosage and administration
Adults and elderly: starting dose 800–1600 mg with meals if not on a phosphate binder. If switching from calcium binders, use equivalent dosing. Adjust dose based on serum phosphorus, monitored every 2–3 weeks to maintain ≤1.78 mmol/L.
