Finasteride treats benign prostatic hyperplasia by shrinking an enlarged prostate, improving urinary flow and symptoms, and reducing risks of urinary retention and prostate surgery.
Dosage and administration
Finasteride is taken 5 mg daily, with/without food, alone or with doxazosin. Effects may take 6 months; long-term use is needed. No dose adjustment for elderly or renal impairment; contraindicated in children.
