Indications
Idarubicin is indicated for adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) [untreated or relapsed/refractory] and second-line relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). In children, it’s used for AML remission induction with cytarabine and second-line relapsed ALL, often in combination chemotherapy.
Dosage and administration
Idarubicin dosage is based on body surface area. AML: adults 12 mg/m² ×3 days with cytarabine or 8 mg/m² ×5 days; children 10–12 mg/m² ×3 days with cytarabine. ALL: adults 12 mg/m² ×3 days, children 10 mg/m² ×3 days. Adjust for hematologic status and combination therapy; delay second course for severe mucositis, reduce dose 25%. IV use only; not for intrathecal administration.
