Indications
Cefazolin is indicated for treatment of susceptible respiratory, urinary, skin, biliary, bone, joint, genital infections, septicemia, and endocarditis; also for perioperative prophylaxis in contaminated or high-risk surgical procedures.
Dosage and administration
Cefazolin is given IV or IM, adults 250 mg–1.5 g every 6–12 hours depending on infection severity. Children receive 25–100 mg/kg/day in divided doses. Adjust for renal impairment; 1 g preoperative prophylaxis.
