Amikacin treats serious short-term infections caused by susceptible Gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas species. It also manages known or suspected staphylococcal disease in specific clinical situations.
Dosage and administration
Adults and children receive 15-20 mg/kg/day via intramuscular or intravenous routes. For intravenous use, dilute in normal saline or 5% dextrose and infuse over 30-60 minutes.
