Patients’ taking Sildenafil (Viagra) and similar drugs used for treating erectile dysfunction may lead to excessive reductions in blood pressure with complications, particularly fainting upon standing (orthostatic hypertension).

Patients’ taking cholesterol-lowering medicine such as simvastatin, the dose of simvastatin should be limited to 20 mg daily by patients taking Amlodipine Norvasc 10mg tablet.

This medicine for high blood pressure is inactivated mainly by the liver, and dosages may need to be lowered in patients with liver dysfunction.

Talk to your doctor if you're taking combined hormonal contraceptives. Some types of hormonal methods of contraception, like the combined pill and contraceptive patch, are not usually recommended for women with high blood pressure.

How to cope with side effects and what to do about:

1. Headaches - make sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids. Do not drink too much alcohol. Ask your pharmacist to recommend a painkiller or pain reliever. Headaches should usually go away after the first week of taking amlodipine. Talk to your doctor if they last longer than a week or are severe.
2. Feeling dizzy - if amlodipine makes you feel dizzy, stop what you're doing and sit or lie down until you feel better

The recommended starting dose of Amlodipine (Norvasc) 10mg for children and adults is 2.5 to 5 mg once daily. 

• If the starting dose isn't working well enough (your blood pressure doesn't lower enough, or your angina isn't controlled), you may need to increase your dose to 10mg. The maximum dose for adults is 10 mg once daily and the maximum dose for children is 5 mg once daily. 
• Amlodipine can be taken with or without food. 
• Amlodipine must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed otherwise by your doctor, as stopping it suddenly may worsen your condition.
• If you can't take amlodipine or other calcium channel blockers because of side effects, you may be able to switch to another blood pressure-lowering medicine.
