{"id":6571,"date":"2025-02-04T03:07:31","date_gmt":"2025-02-04T03:07:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/getmeds.ph\/blog\/?p=6571"},"modified":"2025-02-04T05:32:29","modified_gmt":"2025-02-04T05:32:29","slug":"ai-predicts-breast-cancer-risk-years-6-years-ahead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/getmeds.ph\/blog\/ai-predicts-breast-cancer-risk-years-6-years-ahead\/","title":{"rendered":"Breakthrough AI Predicts Breast Cancer Risk 6 Years Ahead, Study Reveals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Norwegian Institute of Public Health (FHI) shared on Tuesday that women who have a higher likelihood of being at risk of breast cancer may be identified several years before its diagnosis through AI.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was proven when an AI system conducted a post-analysis of the mammograms of 116,495 women (taken through a detection program held in Norway between 2004 and 2018)\u00a0 and was able to identify 1,607 women who were at higher risk to have breast cancer \u2014 and even which breast was more likely to develop the disease \u2014 at the initiative of five researchers from FHI, the University of California and the University of Washington.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Network, where prestigious medical journals are edited and peer-reviewed by the American Medical Association.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Similarly, another project launched by the Norwegian detection program involving the use of AI for healthcare-related services was organized last year, in which 140,000 women were asked which was more efficient (or even better) in diagnosing cancer cases \u2014 AI or radiologists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Solveig Hofvind, the head of the detection program and the AI project, said that, \u201cWe noted that the breast which developed cancer had an AI score about twice as high as the other breast,\u201d further adding that the study supports the notion that AI systems can be utilized for the advancement of tailored cancer detection methods.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moreover, the FHI claimed that in order to reduce costs and have a better probability of targeting at-risk populations, AI could be used for the early diagnosis of breast cancer, the most prevalent type of cancer affecting women in most countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2022 alone, 670,000 women died of breast cancer, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), a clear indication that its widespread presence needs to be addressed and controlled.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Norwegian Institute of Public Health (FHI) shared on Tuesday that women who have a higher likelihood of being at risk of breast cancer may be identified several years before its diagnosis through AI.
